Traditionally, Topaz is the Birthstone for November
Topaz is a very fine gemstone - often ignored and almost always underrated.
There are many different colors of topaz, so if you are not a brown gemstone lover, do not despair! Topaz
comes in many lovely shades of pink, blue, green, yellow, peach, and clear. It is a durable gem, and
many of the loveliest antique jewelry pieces are made with topaz.
Topaz is commonly mistaken for other gemstones, and vice versa. Very often citrine,
peridot, quartz, morganite, apatite, aquamarine, beryl, kunzite, tourmaline, and
zircon are confused with it, due to its incredible spectrum of color possibilities
It is one of the hardest gemstones, with a hardness rating of 8 on the Moh's scale of hardness, with
diamond rating a 10, and talc rating a 1. It is the same hardness as spinel, softer than sapphire, and
harder than the beryl group, which includes aquamarine.
Very few gemstones wear so well, as topaz can take quite a beating, and still retain the sharpness
of its facets. Its beauty closely approximates that of the finest gems, and Imperial Topaz, which is
an exquisite peach/salmon color is the most expensive form of it.
Here is some interesting trivia about Topaz:

* If worn as a pendant, or amulet, it is reputed to give the wearer courage, drive sadness
away, and increase the I.Q.
(We'd all better get one!)

hemorrhages, insomnia, or asthma.
